Friday Night Revenge: Green High School Takes on Tallmadge Blue Devils Preview
Green Seeks Revenge While Tallmadge Faces Challenges in Rematch.

This Friday, September 1st, 2023, at 7:00 PM, Green High School will face off against the Tallmadge Blue Devils in Tallmadge.
Green comes into this game fresh from a historic victory against Division V powerhouse South Range, chopping their regular season win streak in half. Tallmadge stands at a 1-1 record on the other side of the field. With a rough 20-2 loss to Brecksville-Broadview Heights, the Blue Devils could only etch 10 points against Ellet. Those two games for Tallmadge share that the final score dropped significantly from last year’s contests. Tallmadge outscored their week one and week two opponents by 74 combined points, but this year, they’ve only put up 12 in total.
Of course, the narrative going into this game is Green getting revenge on Tallmadge for last year’s OT loss. According to sources, Green’s team ended their practice watching the final play of the Tallmadge game the previous year. A fuel that will keep them going until 9:30 tomorrow, come the end of the game.
Coach Geis said in an interview with the Green Sports Letter,
“We all saw that game last year.”
Challenges and Strategies for Tallmadge in 2023
As mentioned, the Blue Devils are currently 1-1 going into Week 3. Losing to Brecksville and only beating Ellet by ten starkly contrasted their performances last year. Led by Head Coach Mike Hay, the team had a solid 9-3 record last year.
The offensive strategy revolves around a balanced attack. Ameer Yasin and Vito Paonessa provide a strong presence on the offensive line, creating opportunities for the team to gain yards. The group gained an impressive 390.9 yards per game last season, largely thanks to their efforts. Keagan Gilbride’s versatility as a tight end, running back, and linebacker is expected to help Tallmadge transition to a more balanced offensive approach.

One significant change for the Blue Devils is the new quarterback, Ryan Loveless, taking over for Ty Hurst. Loveless had big shoes to fill, as Hurst set numerous passing records during his tenure. Adding on to the already large hole, the loss of Illinois recruit Collin Dixon is a significant story for the Tallmadge Blue Devils this season. Dixon was a standout player, setting numerous receiving records for the team. His departure creates a void in the receiving corps and the overall offensive strategy, as he was known for making clutch receptions, gaining crucial yardage, and scoring touchdowns.
Coach Hay remains optimistic about the 2023 season despite the challenge of replacing key players. With 19 returning letter-winners, the team is prepared to continue transitioning back to a more traditional style of play.
Antonio Martin, Samino Manson, and More Leading Green's Charge
Antonio Martin's dynamic skills on both offense and defense have been a driving force for Green. His ability to make plays, whether running outside for crucial yards or making game-changing interceptions, makes him a standout performer.
On the offensive side, QB Samino Manson will play a crucial role again. In their recent victory against South Range, Manson impressed with remarkable accuracy, completing 69% of his passes and accumulating 254 passing yards. His ability to make precise throws into tight spaces and quickly deliver the ball gives Green a solid passing attack. Alongside Martin, Zach Baglia has showcased why he ranks among the top five receivers in the Federal League. Green's line has also shown remarkable resilience, always giving 100% against bigger opponents.
On the defensive side, AJ Fortunato's performance will be pivotal. He has demonstrated a talent for making critical tackles and stops, particularly against opposing running games. Facing Tallmadge, he will be tasked with containing their running game and disrupting their offensive strategies. Additionally, Josh Just stands out for his leadership on the defensive front, showcasing impressive skills.

Green's determination for revenge from last year's game will undoubtedly fuel their efforts in this matchup. Coach Geis's message of continuous improvement echoes the team's commitment to getting better with each game.
The Edge

Overall, I think the night will end in Green’s favor. With a new hunger for victory, the Bulldogs will feast.
